Glorious 4k Weirdness In The Desert

Henry, Alex Scarlatos (“Unshelled (Short)”), has decided to take some time off and spend it in the desert around Las Vegas. We don’t know why, but he’s excited to.

On his final night in Vegas, prior to his desert adventure, he calls an escort agency from his Planet Hollywood hotel room. He tells them he’s lonely, they say they can help, but then take his credit card and social security number before hanging up.

The next morning, with no escort to show for his phone call, he cancels his credit card with the bank, making some excuse about not wanting the responsibility anymore.

As he’s driving out of Vegas in his car, and before he loses signal, he calls his dad, Timothy J. Cox (“ The Jungle of Accounting (Short)”, “ To Be Alone (Short) “), and they have a stilted conversation, though his dad tells him he wishes he and his mother could have come along.

Henry continues driving but then his car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. He can’t get a signal on his phone. He’s forced to go wandering through the desert.

This is where Henry takes a decidedly sinister and bizarre turn. Writer and director Matthew Kyle Levine (“House to Herself (Short)”, “Weird Cupid (Short)”) gives us a mini Fear And Loathing but without the drugs.

Henry is disorientated whilst echoes of telephone conversations he’s had play over the soundtrack at various speeds. Meanwhile the background of the desert sings in 4k glory.

Henry looks stunning, I mean the movie, not the character alone. The use of 4k really works here as the desert vista, even Vegas, pops on the screen.

The story, soundscape and visuals all line-up with each other to bring you a weird, almost trippy desert experience which, as they say, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas…or the deserts around it.
